Churches join together to build paved
handicap parking space in Hebbronville

The meaning for the outworking of love is found in the book of I John chapter 3: 16-18. “By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does love abide in him?
“My little children let us not love in word or in tongue, but in truth and deed.”
The other day I mentioned to Wilson Heacock my wonderful brother in Christ, that our church was in need of a handicap parking lot. As many of our churches do, we have members in our congregation who have some difficulty walking. Having to walk through uneven, bumpy grass is not easy if you need assistance. So a paved handicap parking lot would make it a lot easier for some of our folks to get into the church. What a blessing that would be.
A couple of weeks later Heacock, a member of Wesley UMC, Harlingen, called me and asked me if some of the men and women from his church could come and pour us a parking lot.
“Wow! That would be great!” I answered.
A gang of hard-working men and women from Wesley UMC showed up April 11 and 12 and got to work. Buddy Moglia from Bruni UMC joined them, and together they dug out piles and piles of dirt, leveled the ground, built the forms and poured us a beautiful handicap parking lot. And that’s not all because, to boot, both of those churches got together and paid for the concrete. It looks great!
Our congregation is blessed not only by the new parking lot but by the demonstration of brotherly love shown by our Wesley and Bruni brothers and sisters. “Little children let us not love in word and in tongue, but in truth and deed.” When Heacock told me that they would help us in our need, I knew that it would happen. There could be no doubt, because I know that Heacock and his Wesley folks and the Bruni folks, abide in truth and deed.
Truth is that we can all learn from the blessings that come when neighbors decide to help neighbors. It’s such a joy to witness.
Thanks Wesley and Bruni. We love you and God loves you.
