Sixty-five youth and 27 adults from the Southwest Texas U.M. ARMY youth work camp completed 25 service projects the week of June 15-21 in Alice, a small town 45 miles west of Corpus Christi. This is the 30th season of the United Methodist Action Reach-out Mission by Youth (ARMY) program.

Jurisdictional conference to elect
new episcopal leaders July 16-19

Bishop Joel N. Martinez will be one of nine United States bishops who retire after the July gathering of jurisdictional conferences July 16-19 (the Northeastern Jurisdiction meets July 13-18).
The primary business of jurisdictional conferences, which meet once every four years, is the election and assignment of bishops. As many as 11 spots for new Episcopal leaders could be open due to 10 possible retirements and the resignation of Seattle Area Bishop Edward Paup, who has been elected chief executive of the United Methodist Board of Global Ministries.

Bishop to be honored for faithful service
The San Antonio Episcopal Area of The United Methodist Church is to host “La Gran Merienda,” an event honoring Bishop Joel N. and Raquel Martinez for their service to the Southwest Texas Conference.
The event will be Aug. 9 at the Alzafar Shrine Center, 901 North Loop 1604, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Lunch is catered by La Fonda Oak Hills, and tickets cost $15.
