Work camps draw
hundreds of youths
from across Texas

It’s not about the pool party or karaoke night or even the evening celebration at the Corpus Christi Aquarium.
There’s just something about serving those who need it most.
“Serving God touches us like nothing else can,” said Kathy Rios, who runs Sea City Work Camp, a housing rehabilitation service project sponsored by the Corpus Christi District. “We are truly making a difference in the world—all in the name of Christ.”
Sea City began back in 1993, but it’s not the only camp of its kind.

New bishops assigned to South Central Jurisdiction until 2012

United Methodists in three episcopal areas of the South Central Jurisdiction will welcome new bishops Sept. 1.
Assignments for 11 South Central bishops—including three who are newly elected—were announced July 19 during the pre-dawn hours of the final business session of the jurisdiction’s 2008 gathering in Dallas. The bishops will serve an eight-state region, with assignments running through Aug. 31, 2012.
The new bishops were consecrated later in the morning July 19 at First UMC, Dallas. The service concluded the jurisdictional conference, which began July 16. The conference is held every four years with the primary purpose of electing and assigning bishops.
